A little bragging about the kid..
« on: May 04, 2005, 05:55:16 pm »

Sorry for bragging a bit, but this is good news about a former home schooler,
and good news is always a shot in the arm.

Background:

My daughter was home schooled through most of the elementry and  junior high
grades. She re-entered the system at high school, and did well there. She's now
completing her junior year at California State University at Chico, where she's been
studying exercise  physiology. Her aim is to work as a certified physical trainer.
She's already earned her first certification, and has been working on an internship
with a sports team at another college.

The Good News:

CSU Chico is starting a program next fall for atheletes training for the US Olympic weight
lifting team. My daughter has been picked to spear head the organizing of the training
program. I'm speechless. She won't be running it, of course, but  she will have a big hand in
getting it organized. That's a lot of responsibility for an undergrad, but aparently the profs
have the confidence in her that she can get it done.

Icing on the cake: the organization and training work will be an internship for which she gets
credit. Since one of her long term goals is to own and run a training facility, I don't think it
could get any better.

Congratulations to your daughter and a hearty well done.  And a well done to the parents that raised her to be so responsible.

Thanks everyone! As you can guess, her mom and I are quite proud.
I'm also relieved that she's found her 'thing' before she even graduates.
Most of can bump around for quite some time before we find a vocation
that fits us. That she has that now is just wonderful.

Excellent news, Bear.  Bragging is always welcome, in fact I have to post an update on my little teenbeast as well.  Will do that in a separate thread.

It's good to know that she not only is a great student, but that she has a parent who appreciates her...those two things don't always go hand in hand, you know.

Ya done good.

May 27th - an update.

Just got a call from the Kid. She just passed her ACSM certification test.
It's the highest level certification for her profession. When she goes to
National ACSM conference in Nashville, she can go as a member instead
of an intern. Yow!

Now if she can just kick Inorganic Chem into shape. Aparently the final
didn't go well. I told her not to despair, but talk to the prof and get the straight
scoop on where she is with it, and if it's a problem, ask the prof the best way
to solve it. Don't try to second guess the situation - ask those who know.
The problem is that this isn't the last of the Chem she needs to take. Next term
is Organic Chemistry (queue Darth Vadar breathing...) and something beyond that.

Now if she just doesn't bite off more than she can chew, like last term...  <_<
