is this where the country is ?

Aesop, do you anticipate any of that (the indictments and prison time you mentioned) actually happening? I have zero faith that it will. Zero.

You may be right.

I know what should happen, but not what will.

That uncertainty alone is cause for great alarm for anyone with any common sense.
The entire point of law is that it be fixed and reliable for all.
Without that, when it's random and capricious, it's worse than no law at all.

If there aren't indictments, trials, and convictions over what's gone on, I can tell you what I do have faith will happen: there's going to be war.

Not a tantrum, or a disturbance, or a riot, or even some low-intensity nonsense.
It's going to be a full batshit war. It will come in its own time. Maybe slow unfolding, maybe all at once. But come it will.

People are going to start looking for an excuse, any excuse, and then they're going to find one, and hunting season will be open. And once it starts, it's going to spiral out of control, like things do, and one side or the other will become extinct before it's over.

The social construct in this country is that every two to four years, we have peaceful revolutions at the ballot box.

Now one side doesn't want to play by that any more, and has spent two years subverting every branch of government to support a slow coup against an elected president. Either we nip that nonsense in the bud, and people responsible pay with their lives spent in prison for a decade or two, or we're going to start getting governments by hard coup, with all the trimmings, and we've seen how that's played out, from Russia in 1917 to Venezuela yesterday.

Folks won't wait to be rounded up, they're going to go looking for the troublemakers, and standing them up against the nearest wall.

For a long time now I have been reading "It's reckoning time, jail time, indictment time" but I've given up hope of it ever happening.  I used to think that if some Americans continued down the path of "we must resist, it is the most important thing ever, and nothing else matters" there would be a civil war, but I've got cynical about that too.  The prevailing attitude seems to be "we are putting it behind us and moving on".

The entire world seems to have "turned on itself".  NZ news is depressing, it is all about the PM making a statement by wearing a hijab - what statement I'm wondering.  That women are 2nd class citizens and have to go around veiled and hooded?  That Islam is superior to everything else?  That she (the PM) is a total idiot and does exactly what the UN dictates, selling out the people without ever realising how depraved she is by doing this?

Most of Europe, and Britain seems to have turned into an irredeemable cesspool and the news out of them and South Africa is nothing but horrifying.  However, news from America seems to be still entertaining and even humourous - SOME OF IT ANYWAY.

However, some of it:

Now having said that, I have to comment on the OP.  It starts out by saying "..... is cause for great alarm for anyone with any common sense".  Well the term "common sense" supposes that "most people" have something in common.  However, if I see that there are problems, and someone else sees "social justice has been done and it's only fair, we have to resist", it's not common, is it?  So one person sees "sense" as one thing and someone else sees "sense" as something entirely different.

I would love to see some accountability for those responsible for spying on Trumps election campaign in 2016 but every day I get more and more despondent that it is ever gonna happen.  It's incredible, "Watergate" was a huge scandal throughout the world, yet this is trivialised, denied, ignored.  I'm amazed.

I'm amazed that millions of dollars were wasted and many people "put through the wringer" over a "Mueller report" because some drongo in the democrat party wanted to pretend that "there was Russian involvement in the 2016 election", and now there is not even no accountability, but democrats are still "at it".  I heard Greg Gutfeld describe it as "like throwing an engagement party long after your fiancÚ has dumped you" - perfect analogy.

It there really is going to be war over this, bring it on.  Something has got to happen.
