Iron Eagle vs Top Gun
« on: March 18, 2017, 09:22:15 am »

these two movies are 80's action classics. Movies that I grew up on. I loved them both, but I have to say that I like Iron eagle by far the better. Firstly, I think it has a harder hitting soundtrack with more variety. and secondly, I like the theme of doing it yourself with the help of a group of all American friends and kickin some ass. Plus there are some great one liners and when doug flies the snake, that is an awesome race scene

Action Classics?!  From the 80's?!     Those two wouldn't make my list - or even be considered.

However, Kelly McGillis probably, um, 'awakened' millions of prepubescent teenage boys' loins in Top Gun (...Every breath you take* ....) - so there's that.

How about:

Red Dawn
Die Hard
Predator
Total Recall
Robocop (new one was actually pretty good - ... from the old gloriously violent movie --
Best of Clarence Boddicker  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QdZqKVcI9m8 [6:15]

Road Warrior
Blade Runner

*Whoops, song/scene was 'Take my breath away'

She was way hotter in Witness, which was also a way better movie too.

Of those two, Iron Eagle all the way.  Any movie where a mythical 'Hades Bomb' exists is just money in the bank...  Haven't watched either in years as I don't want the cheeziness of them to spoil the fond memories I have.

Of the others listed in this thread, Commando gets my vote.  Arnie breaking chains, pushing truck up over a ridge, ripping phone booth out of the floor and single-handedly eliminating an entire fortress of bad guys.  What's not to like?

I forgot about that.  Only in Hollywood does your local sporting goods store sell a 4-shot rocket launcher.

I was always  top gun man myself...but to each his own.  As to gunfights...well I have always preferred a good old west gunfight myself. the 1960 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Magnificent_Seven is great.

But that is a whole other thread.
