Harley and the Davidsons
« on: September 25, 2016, 09:47:08 am »

On the Discovery Channel. The commercials are ridiculous, so maybe best DVRed.
Discussion between Walter and Arthur Davidson, following Walter's country road ride on the Bill Harley design (single cylinder) prototype. This snippet was used in the teaser:
Arthur: "It's too loud and too dangerous! Nobody will buy that!"
"Oh trust me, they'll want it."
It's quite a story, beginning when Arthur was forced off his family farm by a railroad company using imminent domain, paying fifteen cents an acre. It follows the fledgling company through WW1 and the depression, to the first OHV twin Knucklehead.
It contains some object lessons why property rights (particularly intellectual property rights) might not be the Answer To Everything.
