Got a little toasty:

---
Mostly clear skies today, as of 2pm we are sitting at 109 with a forecast high of 112. This is the 14th day with temps above 110. We average 18 days above 110 every summer.

More of the same tomorrow, mostly sunny and hot with the National Weather Service issuing another heat warning.   That heat warning will start at 11am and come to an end at 8pm.   Expect temperatures to range around 112 to 115 here in the valley.
---

Monsoon storm came through - knocked a few poles down about a mile up the street.  Barely a sprinkle here.  Power cost last month $130.34

We had some nasty weather in the Mid-south area. Knocked out power for 24 hours. Will post about that experience elsewhere, hopefully soon'ish... Sunday is supposed to be near 100 degrees!

I lived in that heat most of my life

It's not that bad ... just have to be out in it and get used to it - and drink water (my freezer is full of frozen water bottles). 95o F at 6:43 A.M.

If you're going to be hiking, though, take a few more precautions:
---
A 65-year-old woman hiking in the Superstition Mountains died Wednesday after collapsing along the trail, authorities said.
She and her 71-year-old husband had been hiking for nearly 10 [!] hours [...]

[...] Search and Rescue responded to a similar incident also on Tuesday when two hikers got lost on the Flatiron Trail in the Superstition Wilderness.
The two hikers reportedly could not find the trail to get back down the mountain and were running out of water. Clark said both hikers were found and safely rescued.
---

and

---
A day after a tourist from England died while hiking on Camelback Mountain, City of Phoenix park rangers are getting the message out that outdoor activities can be dangerous

"If people aren't used to the heat, especially if they aren't adapted to it out here," [...]. "Out-of-towners who come out here, I wouldn't suggest it."
---

The above are just some recent ones.

I lived in the desert most of 58 years... and yes, I was "used to it" and took all the precautions. I'm very, very glad I don't have to deal with it anymore, that's all. I can't hike any farther than the bottom of my driveway these days, so I'm good. LOL

Don't forget that there is much lower humidity there. Where you are, and my location to a higher degree, 85 degrees equals over 100 when factoring in humidity. Up here, there is sauna/greenhouse conditions at times. Not so, down there.

I agree, in general I tell folks to subtract about 15 degrees.  So 95 here means 80 or so in the Midwest.  Had some friends in from IL and it was 95 out - 'It doesn't feel like like 95.'  'Yeah, but this isn't IL.'

From ML's above post:
__________
temp 92
Humidity    17%

__________

But right now here (8:45 p.m.):
__________
98°F
Humidity: 29%

__________

However, we are in our 'monsoon' season - so it varies a lot.  It is usually dry - you don't sweat beads, it just evaporates, then you start getting headaches, get tired, disoriented ... then some Mexicans show up on your claim.

(Note the wide-brimmed hats and long-sleeved cotton shirts.  They're not wearing tank tops and flip flops.)

Stuff I wear if I'm out for any amount of time (not day-to-day type stuff) - Goodwill long-sleeved white 100% cotton shirt plus thatch-like hat with holes/vents in it.

Here in Benninton, Vermont they're predicting 88F tomorrow, with 69% humidity. A far cry from 95F with 95% humidity that I remember from Augusts in Boston, but still mighty hot and humid.

Temp still bouncing all over the place. Went from 6 degrees above freezing the other morning, to the high 60s today, and back and forth the last week. Going for a high of 90 today, says the forecast. Was supposed to be that yesterday, but only made it to 81. I'll take it. LOL  20% chance of rain today, 30% tomorrow.  I don't expect any this time of year... but it could fool us, for sure.

It's been head-scratching gorgeous in Iowa this past week.  Feels like September weather.  Dropping into the upper 40s at night and barely breaking 80 during the day.  Next week we warm back up to mid-80s but by golly I'm loving this weather!  The green peppers and tomatoes... not so much.

I cannot believe how *cool* it's been around here in the month of... AUGUST! We had a few mornings that dipped down into the upper 50's, and even a few days where the highs were in the mid to upper 80's. Did I mention that we're in AUGUST?!? Just unbelievable! The other night I went to get the hummingbird feeder to clean and refill and was shocked how cool it was outside. I am wondering if my beloved hummingbirds are starting to migrate? Seems a bit early, but it would explain the increase in numbers. Begs the question: exactly how cold of a winter will we have?
