Current weather conditions
« on: June 16, 2015, 05:10:00 pm »

Well, our neck of the woods (western TN) can't quite compete with AZ, but it's still unbearable here IMHO (low 90's during the day; low 70's at night). I don't know how I survived South Florida! Ugh, I hate summer!

Gonna get a little toasty - TV says 87o at 0716.

---
Last month, much of the United States was wet. How wet? When climate scientists at NOAA’ National Centers for Environmental Information averaged the observations of rain, snow, and other precipitation from across the country, they found out it the country’s wettest May since records began 121 years ago. In fact, it was the wettest month ever recorded!

Tropical Storm Bill

Came ashore north and east of me so I am on the "mild" side in this instance.

We are getting a light mist and winds around 12 to 20 mph but no real "storm" conditions.

Port O'Conner, Texas is the landfall as close as I can see from the less than optimal charts the weather service puts up online.

Highest winds so far are 50 to 60 mph. Rain will be the big factor as we have already had the wettest May on record here in Texas. See image below for rain probability chart.

Note small white dot in storm force winds charts. That is the Eye of TS Bill.

Yeah but you probably have much more humidity.  I've been in NC when it was 95o F and 90+% humidity. I'll take 110o F and our relatively low humidity here over that any day.  Although monsoon season just started so it does up the humidity but the rain cools things off a bit.

I thought I left the A/C on by accident when I came in today - it was 20o cooler inside - thermostat was at 91o.

Temperatures are just about perfect, but this is the wettest spring I can remember. It's rained harder at times before, but not so consistently, for so many days consecutively. It is still too wet to mow the weeds, and they've just about finished going to seed. Next year ought to be so much fun. :)

Detailed forecast:
Today
A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after noon. Mostly sunny, with a high near 75. Light and variable wind becoming south 6 to 11 mph in the afternoon.
Tonight
A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 55. Southeast wind 5 to 9 mph becoming light and variable after midnight.
Thursday
A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after noon. Mostly sunny, with a high near 79. Light and variable wind becoming southeast 9 to 14 mph in the morning.
Thursday Night
A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before midnight. Partly cloudy, with a low around 58. Southeast wind 8 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 23 mph.
Friday
Mostly sunny, with a high near 85. East wind 5 to 9 mph becoming west in the afternoon.
Friday Night
A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 56. North wind 5 to 8 mph.
Saturday
A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly sunny, with a high near 75.
Saturday Night
A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 53.

I"m north of ML, depending on road you take, 60 to 100 miles. :D

Lets say we had RAIN during day and night, with hail at least the entirety of last week .. hail only at night.

Yeah but you probably have much more humidity.

Oh, boy howdy! When I lived in Florida I swore one could sweat while taking a shower! As much as living there sucked (for me), the constant heavy dose of Vitamin D kept me relatively well. We spent a couple of weeks in Colorado one summer and walked around quite comfortable while the locals complained of the heat. It was a welcome break for us! I also spent some wintertime in Colorado and could handle being outdoors since it wasn't as wet as it gets in the east.

GOOCH - Did you fare well through T.S. Bill? We could have used some of that rain here in TN. We had gray skies, cloudy skies and some sunshine on and off throughout Friday. There was about 15-20 minute period total of light rain. Oh well. I'm glad I didn't have go outside to water the plants!

Still raining off and on in NE Wyoming. This is getting ridiculous! No more hail, so far. We had a tornado warning last night - the weather people have a recording that goes out by telephone. Funny thing was there wasn't a cloud in the sky when the call came! The storm went to the north of us, so DF probably got some of it, but we had just a light rain sometime during the night. Already near 70 degrees outside this morning, and it's 74 in here already because I couldn't dare leave the windows open last night. Rats. Once these logs heat up, it is not possible to cool it down again.

And yes, I'm eager to hear from Gooch.

Yeah well I'm fine Moonbeam. You folks won't get rid of me that easily.
The storm passed north and east of me and all we got was three days of cloudy skies with rain and drizzle when the rain slowed.
The highest winds were in the 30 mph range but to an open ocean sailboat sailor that's just enough to move the boat properly. FYI = 20 to 30 knots is called "a schooner breeze".

You Might just get some of that rain when it moves north and east. (see rain probability chart above)

Thanks for the concern.

I am still waiting for the ground to dry enough for me to go back to mowing lawns.
I was able to plant a shade tree for a customer even in the slow drizzle.

Otherwise I am still a salt encrusted (freshly rinsed) sailor pretending to be educated in the ways of the world.

Still toasty

Power usage:  Yesterday:             $4.28
                      This month so far:  $68.03
                      Last month:           $51.61

Community pool helps against using A/C.  Jump in, get out, walk back to house with damp shorts and it keeps you cool for a bit.  Haven't turned on A/C this afternoon and it's 92oF inside wearing damp shorts - cost today so far is $1.96 at 1808 HRS.

Power was intermittent for a bit - just high winds.  Knocked part of a roof tile off.  The downed Saguaro has been across a chain link fence for a month or so - down the street - not sure what caused it to fall.  Thought about asking owner if I could cut off an arm and plant it in front yard.

PHOENIX (KPHO/KTVK) -

The monsoon packed quite the punch over the weekend with strong winds rushing through the Valley.

The force knocked down power lines leaving thousands without power for several hours Saturday night.

It is cool and rainy in Ohio. Has been for about two weeks. My tomatoes and peppers are unhappy, but the potatoes, beans, and collards are doing very well.

Been the wettest spring/early summer in recent memory for most of the folks here in Iowa.  I can count on one hand the number of sunny days this past month.  Mushrooms and mosquitos are abundant.  Peas are enjoying the cooler weather.  Tomatoes and green peppers are not.  I think I know the reason for all the rain: back in April I almost purchased a rain barrel.  I had more pressing needs for my FRNs so I decided to postpone on the barrel purchase.  Guess it was a good thing...
