Casper is fine.  Do not make waves.  Do not assume that because people are friendly, they aren't just busy body assholes.  Casper has 1000% the customer service and neighborliness of small town Wyoming.  Casper has work, and there are actual eligible young women who are remotely physically fit, so you can do stuff rather than just go to rodeos and watch other people do stuff.

Casper has a HARBOR FREIGHT STORE!!! A BIG ONE, not the little kind.

Casper is far enough inland that you cannot reach Colorado (so you can't get any more work or the pretty women from Colorado if you're young and eligible and working.)  Casper has some cultural life, and it isn't quite the cesspit Cheyenne can turn into now and again.  Again, its in the middle of nowhere, though.  Its not a major political hub, the way Cheyenne is.  Its also not a nuclear target, since Cheyenne gets that one all by its lonesome little self.

Both are downhill from the Caldera, so you get buried in liquid rock if things go bad... geologically speaking.

All I know is that if I had a choice of places to live again... "in Wyoming only," I'd say the hell with small town life and head straight for Cheyenne, Casper or Laramie.  The more people from the outside flow in and out, the better life is.  You don't realize how bad "conservatism" is, as a life philosophy until you live in a town where you aren't one of the in crowd, you better have work elsewhere.

I have only driven through that area but I did live in Montana and Idaho for years in each.
I don't much like winter that far north but I did know how to live through it. No desire to go back to that latitude. I much prefer hot summers to frozen winters.
I would suggest, IF Possible, to seek a place west of the city proper (away from the major freeway) so that you can escape the crazies when wanted/needed. DF points out some of the better points and in that area of the world larger numbers makes for a better selection of eligible life partners IF that is important to you. (I was married at the time so ...)

Smaller towns for privacy and intimate relationships with the locals (for good or ill) vs larger towns/cities for access to the trappings of "civilization".

ALL the Best in your move and keep your powder dry.

Casper is a giant, sucking chest wound of a shit hole. Went through not long ago and the construction is out of control. Also driving through crow country leaves much to be desired. I am curious how the jurisdiction changes in reservation land. It's already bad enough tight rope walking the us government, last thing I am interested in is dealing with a with entirely different set of regulations. Beautiful country regardless, and the wet spring has seemingly done much for the landscape.

Well, I am here. More or less.

got here ok, but my trailer with all my stuff is still in IL.
My truck was just to small to pull it loaded.
So I need to find a larger truck.
But I am here in my house now.
Start work Friday night.

Destin Faruda—

Or anyone…

What can you tell me about Lusk Wyoming?

A friend always used it as an example of a nice small town—but always in passing—and I never thought to ask him exactly what he liked about it.

Maybe like Pennington Gap Virgina, Falmouth Kentucky, Cawood or Harlan Kentucky…

Destin—

My two best friends owned and operated a Gunstore for many years.

They were both touchy, prideful and anti-social.

They hated every minute they spent there despite an abiding love for guns.

Neither should ever have been in a position to deal with the public.

I've kinda come to look on you as a friend—though I often disagree with you.

People have suggested that you're unhappy in Wyoming because you're a Rotten Shit…

Maybe you have simply tried to force your Rectangular Peg into an Oval like Hole (whole too?)

Anyone will act out if they're desperately unhappy with their circumstances.

I still cringe when I think of some of the Bizarre Behavior that I exhibited while in the US Army.

YAY! Welcome to Wyoming. For whatever it's worth. :) I'm glad there's one more good man here, at any rate.

What can you tell me about Lusk Wyoming?

I've driven through Lusk a good number of times since I've lived here. I make a pit stop each time, and once went into a local restaurant for lunch. The people were friendly and nobody even looked at my sidearm, far as I could see. I didn't notice anything different there than in Newcastle, except more traffic. It's too damned close to Cheyenne for me, and that's the only fault I can think of.

and stopped at the Sinclair station. I went inside for a break. Several people seemed genuinely concerned about my welfare. I really wasn't doing badly, I guess I looked worse than I felt. The lady at the counter refused to take my money for some food and hot chocolate.

I'll bet that's the same station I always go to for my "pit stop." Seldom buy anything except coffee, but the people there are always nice. Glad you found the soft heart of Wyoming there. :)

Lusk is just another s/e Wyoming shithole.  I don't quite get your implication that somehow Destin is at fault r.e. Wyoming , he hasn't said anything whatsoever that's untrue about the state.

But hey I guess all the folks I know that came to Wyoming and left in disgust at the insular govt worshipping culture are just " Rotten Shits"......

 Whatever.

I was saying maybe he isn't a "Rotten Shit" after all. Maybe he's just in a place that doesn't suit his personality.

I have no idea what Wyoming is like. I was only there once for a couple weeks when I was twelve.

You and Destin Faruda may be entirely correct about the place for all I know.

However, in the past when DF told how much he hated the place, 4 out of 5 replies were that the problem wasn't Wyoming—it was DF.

Nowadays many folks have him on "Ignore" so the number of folks ready to dispute with him about Wyoming may have diminished.

{That isn't precisely correct. All the active contributors added together don't qualify as "Many" anymore.}

Some people cannot handle dealing with the public. If one cannot yet fate or circumstances forces him into such a situation he will come to hate everyone and everything around him with ever increasing loathing and disdain.

Sorry that a qualified boost was perceived as an attack.

Oh bullshit , and if four out of five folks have him on " ignore" because he speaks the truth about what a corrupt cesspool Wyoming is both politically and socioeconomically then that says a great deal more about them and their herd mentality that requires saying " Oh My Wyoming is just the bestest , coolest place and everything is rosy for everyone in Wyoming".
