just wondering, as I am going to be out your way next week.
hate to be caught up in this bullshit while out looking for a new home.
No guarantees if you head south, of course, but you are likely to be safe up here in the NE corner...
Can't remember where you said your job was, but you might look at the little towns around Guernsey. There's a tiny hamlet just north of there off hwy 270, called Hartville - that puts me in mind of "Hardyville" every time I go through there. There is exactly one restaurant, and one post office... a church and a volunteer fire department. Might be too small for you, of course.
Hartville is a town in Platte County, Wyoming, United States. The population was 62 at the 2010 census. Wikipedia
Population:
63 (2013)

Somebody must have had a baby...
The grapevine and gossip brigade is MURDER in every small town, unless you're like ML. Old and deemed harmless. If you're young and carry a gun, BRING LOTS OF RESOURCES... YOU WILL BE ALONE. They will label you a freeman, freestater or whatever the latest statist boogie man might be. Assume anyone wanting to visit just wants to case your place. This has been the case with me. With. Each. And. Every. Visitor. Mama Liberty might have been the ONLY visitor/friend/contact out here who didn't visit for something to gossip about. That's damn rare! The "locals" on the other hand... they're just looking for something juicy to spill to their buddies to feel important and "informed."
And if you are a "militia nut" or "freeman" or "freestater" have no fear, the locals are SO anti government and pro freedom that they'd sell you to the fibbies so fast you won't see it coming. At 62 people, expect 50% to be government employees, and the other 50% retired and on the government teat. You bring a few hundred grand and then some to spare and get used to living super cheap and without anything you enjoy and a dwindling supply of ever higher priced ammo... and you'll be fine. Hopefully you detect the sarcasm.
If you want to live like the afghans and arabs in a cave... Wyoming or "small town" wherever will work. Just don't expect it to work any better than the afghan caves are working for those guys. This place was viable as long as they had a stranglehold on the energy trade. "Our saudi and other OPEC
allies" put an end to that by selling oil at a loss, far as I hear from the patch (Ghost would have more on this.) Now half my neighbors who were never here and their wives stayed home and bought expensive pickups, traded in their pickups for economy sedans and the hubbies who never cooked at home unless they were grilling 12.00/lb fancy beef or buffalo, are spending time cooking with the honey and out job hunting or relocating to cheaper places.
All I'm saying bro, is BE CAREFUL, and don't make the mistake of thinking people in Wyoming are like people in the big city, minding their business, and largely benevolent leave me alone and I'll leave you alone folks. Here, not only do they not look away, but they will pry into your business, but not to help. Some are genuine friendly folk, but the percentage of those versus the vitriolic gossips... minuscule. In this place, anyone being friendly... is likely not. In fact, my normally gregarious attitude is viewed as hostile and offensive to most of the locals. Took me 3 years to figure out why. I strike up a conversation because, you know, in those hippie places that have a Trader Joe's, I'd strike up a convo in line, and the crews that shop there are generally fairly educated, intelligent, also friendly folk with stuff to add to the conversation. Here, strike up a conversation that isn't about some bullshit provincial, unimportant issue, not even important to the moles wiping out your garden, and you'll be seen as pumping them for info and not minding your business. Because this is how the majority behave when they want to tap you for info they can gossip about.
Julio and anyone else. If you choose to move to Wyoming, keep your mouth shut, don't be friendly. Assume anyone appearing to be friendly... is not. Keep details of your life or past hidden. Work away from town. Don't even waste time applying. If they ask, if there's a job available, etc, assume it is just done to get you to feed them info. You won't get the job if there's the remotest, slightest, tiniest MOTE of a chance that someone's kid once dreamed about trying it out. If they offer work, they will offer you work... so long as you do it cheap, do a great job, and they'll randomly stop calling for no intelligible reason. Sometimes they'll offer you work just to get info from you. Once they get it, you'll never hear from them again. Do your math on this. If they assume you're a free stater or you open carry, even if its for legal reasons, and because there's goddamn mountain lions leaving softball sized paw prints in the kid playground in th emiddle of town... you carry openly and you're instantly labeled a trouble maker.
The only time offered work is legit is when its "help me for 50 bucks" under the table stuff. That's legit. They're just asking for help and willing to pay. If its a job which requires paperwork... that's probably the cleverest way to pump people for legit info about themselves.
