The disappeared: Chicago police detain Americans at abuse-laden 'black site'

The Chicago police department operates an off-the-books interrogation compound, rendering Americans unable to be found by family or attorneys while locked inside what lawyers say is the domestic equivalent of a CIA black site.

I thought of posting the story yesterday, but found myself asking, what's the point.. As long as we continue to let these "people" do whatever they want to us, they will.. A group of people standing around holding signs and chanting peacefully has never stopped their masters from violence.. Anyway, a slave asking their master to be nicer, change their ways, make things more fair is really pointless and sad.. It will not change anything, but I sure wish it would..

A side note..you can wish in one hand, and crap in the other, and see which one gets filled first !!

Scott Greenfield stops just short of calling BS, and I think he has a point.

Quote
For conspiracy theorists, this feeds right into the belief that the police are in control of the system, from top to bottom, and can do as they please.  See?  They had a black site in Chicago and no one knew anything about it, at least not until the Guardian exposed it.

Sorry, but this stretches credulity beyond the breaking point.  Aside from the fact that the people in government aren’t anywhere near smart and capable enough to keep something like this a secret for very long, there are about a million loose ends that would come back to bite the cops in the ass for even trying to maintain a black site.

The Guardian is not a very reliable source, it earned the moniker The Grauniad.  Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence, and the story as written is sorely lacking.

It will drive a lot of traffic to their site, though.

Peace,

Silver

living to close to Chicago as I do, I have had my run ins with the police from time to time.

almost every policeman has the attitude that they are superior to everyone else.

And the best way to keep from being trap by them, is to just stay off the radar, if not then put on your yes sir master face, and hope for the best.

If they want you, RUN.

Think about all the law suits that have been file and won against the Chicago police in the past.

maybe this is BS, but I can see them doing this too.

I think Greenfield's point is that any of us can believe the police might try something like this.  What is unbelievable is that this could persist for any length of time without them being caught.  Not held accountable, not punished, just caught abusing prisoners in a black facility.

I have been reading about this place for a while now and reading about it on various sites, it seems (to me anyway) that is a "chickens coming home to roost" thing, permission was granted for all this in the "PATRIOT Act" - which was passed with nobody reading it (I still find that unbelievable).  And this is also to "justify" having places like this overseas (Guantanamo Bay for instance) because "we don't just do it to Muslims, we torture our own people too".

The obvious question is how many others of these sites exist throughout the country?

And Where, and in which cities do they exist?

I can't believe that this is an isolated case.

Here's one of the articles on the subject, probably the best and the most up to date one I can find.

http://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2015/feb/27/chicago-abusive-confinment-homan-square

A Chicago man says he was confined for three days – shackled, interrogated and fed only twice, his whereabouts unknown – inside the police “black site” at the epicentre of public outcry over allegations of abuse said to focus on minority citizens.

Four black Chicagoans have now come forward to the Guardian detailing off-the-books ordeals at the facility, including another who describes being detained in “a big cage” with his wrists cuffed to a bench so he couldn’t move.

'Gestapo' tactics at US police 'black site' ring alarm from Chicago to Washington.

The Guardian has now interviewed six people about their detention at the Homan Square police warehouse. With striking consistency, all have described extensive detentions without benefit of legal counsel or public notice of where they were

snip

Now I'll just sit back and wait until other "black sites" are found in other places.

Sure "the Guardian" might have a reputation as being kind of unreliable, but this only echos what is being said other places too and the age old question is always there:  "Why would people make it up?"

I don't believe they would make it up.  The Chicago  police against a few individuals?  I doubt if they  were ever worried about being caught.

They would  have backstopped cover stories and plausible deniability.   It isn't a black site. Calling it that just allows people who demand a level of proof that is unobtainable to ridicule the allegations.  The place is known and isn't off the books. It is easy to believe that the legality of the place covers for other activities.

The individuals who are taken there are most likely selected for their inability for various reasons to fight back through legal means.

The CPD will probably back off until the heat dies down.

Well there must have been something to it.  Something that makes "rats leave a sinking ship", more information to come out maybe?

http://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2015/mar/19/senior-chicago-police-commander-resigns-homan-square

A senior Chicago police commander in charge of a major unit operating out of the controversial Homan Square police warehouse has resigned, the Guardian has confirmed.

The news came as attorneys for three Homan Square victims announced that they would file the first civil rights lawsuit over the facility with the aim of shutting down the complex likened by attorneys and activists to the domestic law enforcement equivalent of a CIA “black site.”
