Thermite is iron oxide (rust) and aluminum. The aluminum has a higher affinity for the oxygen than the iron. It reacts yielding a lot of heat, in what is known as an exothermic reaction. It takes a lot of heat to get the reaction started, so it's utility as a fire starter is problematic. One of thermites traditional uses is welding railroad track sections together. It's commonly used for welding dissimilar metals.

Or for creating immense heat, enough to melt the steel columns so that the twin tower buildings - and building 7 of course - could collapse neatly into their own footprints when the controlled explosions occurred.  (There WAS evidence at the time that explosives had been planted in the basements, that is until the physical evidence was hauled away for scrap).

Very useful is thermite, even more useful is thermate, which was probably used in the explosions.

Most of the time news is about the same old violations of the first principles of consent and golden rule with a dash of force thrown in........ with just enough duct tape to be believable.
