Suicide Soldier

Suicide Soldier is dedicated to the memory of Daniel Somers, a soldier who served over 400 combat missions in Iraq. He took his life on June 10, 2013. His family gave permission to publish the letter he left behind.

I am sorry that it has come to this.

The fact is, for as long as I can remember my motivation for getting up every day has been so that you would not have to bury me. As things have continued to get worse, it has become clear that this alone is not a sufficient reason to carry on.

Mother Circe has always been puzzled that suicide is a crime.. Mother Circe wonders who state masters intend to charge after the "crime" has been committed ? Mother Circe always marvels at the depths the state masters will navigate for monies and control. Mother Circe's morality says that suicide is a very fundamental right. Mother Circe like to imagine that the "suicide soldier" has found peace !

EE…!

I don't think that the issue of whether or not the State has the Right to Forbid Suicide is what is being discussed.

It is a damned shame when people feel their only way out is the suicide express.

About the rest of it…

I don't quite understand the lingering guilt. If you did something wrong, repent once and simply forget it.

If you weren't wrong, skip the repentance and simply forget it.

If you truly feel guilt for actions, instead of some made up bullshit religious people claim, it doesn't go away right away, and any trigger brings it back.  Sure, your catholic confessor or baptism confessions might get you crowd or perceived divine forgiveness, but forgiveness for one's sins against others is ALWAYS internal.

Even if your victims are alive and forgive you, even if you pay them back for thefts, even if you MAKE restitution to your victims and they forgive you, in the end, YOU have to forgive YOU.  This is how guilt goes away, you acknowledge what you did wrong.  You try to atone.  And you try to heal and get over it.  Not everyone succeeds, not everyone changes successfully, not everyone gets over it.

This is how churches and governments have cashed in for millennia on guilt THEY created for things which no sane man should feel guilty about.

I didn't see any blinded  jubilant, flag waving Americans chanting...,"USA,USA!" ?
I didn't see any " bravely defending our homeland/ freedom from terrorism "?
I didn't see any "flyovers" at ball games?
I didn't see any yellow ribbons, or support your troops bumper stickers?

I didn't see any pictures of Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld or any "elected representatives" weeping and holding a gun to their chins ?

I only saw our formerly healthy children, now writhing in agony, ignored, discarded, pleading for a response to their pain from "VA hospitals" for an aspirin.......

God, please grant these people healing & peace.

...........and shift the resulting residue, into the minds of those ruthless who sent them.
