I thought it was Jon Snow's Valyrian steel sword that killed the walker in the latest episode, and apparently so do the maintainers of the Game of Thrones wiki: http://gameofthrones.wikia.com/wiki/Valyrian_steel

Apparently, the novels haven't yet tested that theory, though, as the Battle of Hardhome didn't appear in the books, only the show.

S5E08 Spoiler Alert (question concerning Arya in her current Kwai Chang Caine storyline):

So Arya's mission is to walk around the docks and sell oysters and see what The God of Many Faces will show her in regards to some kind of mission ... or something.  When meeting the ship & sailor casualty/property/life insurance guy: 

Some client comes up and shows he's survived 4 trips (maps included) and he also throws down a bagful of (coins?) like he wants to buy out of something - he mentions what will his family do (without him?).  Insurance dude ('4 oysters, with vinegar') considers and says 'Nah.'  Sailor/Captain starts to protest and gets 'helped' away by ins. guy's bouncers.

Later, Arya is discussing what she saw with teacher Jaqen/Joaquin/Jocken.  He talks about how life insurance guy loses if sailor/captain dies while sailor/captain loses if he survives voyage.  Then he mentions that insurance guy may not pay out anyway in case of death, so Arya should keep an eye on him.

 Questions:

1.  Why would sailor guy complain about assumed premiums and how his family won't be able to live?  And want to give insurance guy money to get out of something?  Is he being coerced/extorted into giving ins. guy premiums anyway and is he worried/knows that this particular insurance agent doesn't pay out upon death/loss?

2.  Assuming the insurance guy's a crook, it seems he wouldn't last long in an open air market extorting sailors around the docks. 

3.  Now, maybe sailors do this because the guy's some kind of warlock/wizard.  You pay him ... and you keep on paying him and you'll get to where you're going safely.  However, stop payment, you die and he doesn't pay out & your family starves.

(3.) is about the only explanation I can think of as this is going to have to continue with the storyline with this being Arya's first mission.
I've watched the scene(s) three times and it's confusing.

This is where the wikia helps for me  - it doesn't really spoil anything but gives a bit more back story/history.

 Now I just remembered that in Season 1, wasn't a Stark lost and never found North of the Wall on a ranger patrol ... or something?

Longclaw is the ancestral, valaryian steel sword of Commander Mormont.  Daddy of the guy that is hanging out with Daenaerys the dragon girl.  Mormonts were busted trading slaves.

Season 6 just started.  This season is apparently a complete divergence/separation from the books because George R. R. Martin hasn't completed his latest yet.  There were supposed to be seven books so (maybe) seven seasons ... who knows.

Search youtube for 'game of thrones the story so far' and click on the one-hour one(s). This summarizes Seasons 1-5.  I felt like I should've been taking notes.

Yeah a complex plot.  Killing Jon Snow took a lot of complexity out of it though...  I supposed he was a Stark/Targaryan...or another similar mix.

Actually near the beginning of book 5 Sam does tell Jon that he had read in one of the books at Castle Black that dragonsteel swords were thought to also kill the Others.  They are wondering if it might be an ancient reference to Valyrian steel.  EDIT: Yes it is in the second Jon chapter of A Dance with Dragons. 

I might be mistaken in the time line but I think this is still prior to Jon killing the Other with Longclaw as seen in season 5.

It's all such a jumble trying to read the books while watching the series.  I started them before I knew of the show coming.  I had the characters all visualized in my mind's eye and after seeing the first season I had to completely adopt the show's vision of the characters to even hope to keep anything straight.  I'm failing.  So many subtle differences between the two it's hard to keep track.

After three episodes, I would say that quite a lot is happening in season six. Can you say Jon Snow?

I do hope the dragons rescue Daenerys.

I think Jonathon Pryce is a greater threat to be taken are of rather than Ramsay - Ramsay's only got a small area to practice his sadism whereas the Sparrows are in semi-control of King's Landing. 

Viewers were mad about the slow-catch-up premiere, the thing going down in Dorne (I was fine with it), then they were mad of some predictable but still 'Oh no they didn't!' in the second episode.  This was after they were mad about a certain wedding-night rape after being not outraged about previous beheadings, weiner-cutting-offings, young children/babies getting killed ...

Dude below needs to be rubbed out - wonderful depiction of a fanatic, problem is, he'd probably enjoy it and view it as penance.

(SPOILER ALERT for episode 3)...




Tyrian is the man to watch this season. He has got the brains and he has the muscle now too. He has the unsullied under his command and judging from his pleasant interaction with the two very large dragons below the city that he freed from their chains I would say he has them in his corner too. The mother of dragons seems to like Tyrian as well so no matter what happens his future is looking very bright indeed.

Ramsey needs to die ASAP and maybe Jon Snow and the wildlings will take care of that soon. As for the high sparrow his days are numbered for sure but I do love the way he treated Circe and she had ALL of that coming to her and more. In fact I would love to see the high sparrow stab her in the heart with a poisoned dagger while they were both falling off a high cliff into a pool of molten lava. My dreams are seldom realized though on Game of Thrones so probably the mountain will cave in the Sparrows head just prior to some hot Dornish women ganging up on him and poisoning him again with multiple spear jabs this time. Did I mention the Dornish women are hot?
