NSA targets Linux Journal as 'extremist forum'
« on: July 07, 2014, 12:01:16 pm »

... was listening to local talk radio and they were discussing the latest revelations about the NSA.

Host:   'Then there's this:  [talks about what was reported below]  Have you ever heard of Lye-nux?'

Co-host:   'No what is it?'

Host:  'I don't know - here in the article it says something about a forum where these tech guys write computer programs or something ...'  ^_^

I wanted to call in and ask what kind of smartphones they had.  Most smartphones not IPhone or Microsoft use Android - which are most cellphones on the planet - which are built around Lennux (that's the way I pronounce it, but it's apparently not completely correct - and yes I know the correct way).

NSA targets Linux Journal as 'extremist forum': Report

By Leon Spencer | July 4, 2014 -- 02:00 GMT (19:00 PDT)

The Linux Journal, a Linux user community website, has been flagged as an "extremist forum" by the United States' National Security Agency (NSA), while its users have been flagged as "extremists" under the agency's XKeyscore program, according to leaked source code.

The source code, which was published this week by German public broadcaster, ARD, also identified at least two German Tor Directory Authority servers — one in Berlin, the other in Nuremberg — as being under surveillance by the NSA.

The Tor Project is an independent, open-source anonymous software and browsing network that directs traffic through its free, worldwide, volunteer network to conceal users' locations and usage from surveillance.

According to an ARD report, the source code indicates that the German Tor servers are just two among a number of servers that have been targeted by the NSA for surveillance, under its XKeyscore program. The code cites a number of specific IP addresses of the Tor Directory Authority.

The NSA's XKeyscore program is a collection and analysis tool, and was one of a number of surveillance programs revealed in the documents leaked by former NSA contractor and whistleblower, Edward Snowden, last year.

The idiots are confusing Linux developers with Tor users. There is some overlap, but they are not one and the same.

Makes perfect sense.  Linux is an open source OS platform that is pretty much at the top tier of technology.  Much of the interwebs are built around it.  In the hands of a competent SysAdmin it's tough for governments to interfere with its use and/or spy on its users.  It is also cutting big swaths out of corporate OS profits for M$.  And you know how tight the Gates' & their money are to whichever man is in the big white house.  Of course they're going to use the power of gvmt to put the screws to their competition.  Governments are tools of oppression.  Nothing more, nothing less.

Years and years.  May have written the occasional article, too.  But now that I am told by the goobermint that those nerds are terrists... well, I'll be sure to only use windows!!!  Surely Microsoft would never do business with terrists or oppressive goobermints?  Would they?
* Destin Faruda points to an old expired linky about an article on the great firewall of China involving Microsoft and Google and Cisco in 100% cooperation!!!!

Yeah, don't look that up.  Might make you wonder if the goobermint is lying about other things... too.
