And they have covered quite a bit of ground.

Fans will remember at the end of "Return of the Jedi" there is a big Ewok orgy and general party, YAAAAY the Emperor is dead!!.

The next day Luke Skywalker is returning to the fleet, still suffering from the effects of the Emperors force lighting, when a message droid (think big assed engine with a compartment for the message)  drops out of light speed.  It is for the Emperor, sent to his last known location, by the planet of Bakura. An Imperial outpost on the edge of unexplored space that is under attack from an unknown aggressor.

So begins the first post Star Wars movie book "The truce at Bakura"  Followed by 80+ books spanning over 40 years. And yes I have and have read them all.
I've read a few. The books where grand admiral thrawn was trying to get the twins so he could teach them the ways of the dark side. I'm not sure what the titles were.

Edit- Now that those books are fresh in my mind, I'm remembering a few other tid-bits. Slaves/prisoners imprisoned on the outside of a ship in bubbles to serve as psychological armor against attacks. Also, Thrawn had the ability to control an entire fleet of drones. Was he really a clone? It's been awhile.

The Thrawn Trilogy:
Heir to the Empire
Dark Force Rising
The Last Command

No he was not a clone but an member of the Chiss Ascendency.  One of my favorite SW series.  Lol may have to dust them off and give them a reread.

I agree with the original poster: cool music and editing.

Me too. I have always been a big fan.   I wonder if, given that its JJ the new movie will be an alternate reality departure from standard Star Wars timeline established in the books.  Think the new Star Trek where JJ introduced and alternate reality in which Kirk's father dies when he is born and changes the whole timeline.

I can tell you that the movie takes place about 30 years after A New Hope, the first Star Wars movie Episode VI for the uninitiated.  I know this because , among other things a character named Poe Dameron is introduced and in the wiki he is said to have existed in that time frame.  BUT he was never in any of the books. So the Alternate Star Wars reality is a possibility.

http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Poe_Dameron

Beyond that I will not speculate here because IF he follows the timeline introduced in the book series and is just adding new content AND does not change certain pivotal events, then Star WARS fans are in for an incredible shock and I do not want to spoil anything.  If he does change things...well then I would be wrong.

Either way I expect this one to be very different than episodes I, II, and III which many fans did not care for and more true to the original flavor of VI, V and VI.

(A note for the not so fans out there if you did not already know,  the first move was actually episode 4 followed by 5 and 6 then the newer movies were 1, 2 and 3.)

STAR TREK > STAR WARS

I'm a huge fan of both.  They're simply not the same thing.  Star Trek is science fiction.  Star Wars is space fantasy.

Good point, Who Me. Abrams is known for unexpected storytelling, though he doesn’t tend to mess with your mind on the same level as say Christopher Nolan does. I imagine, for anyone writing or directing the movie, it would be difficult to wrap your arms around all the books, video games and even some fantastic fan created materials that are out there. There are a lot of possibilities to be pursued. If I were a gambling kind of gal I would speculate that Abrams took extra care in preserving the integrity of the first three films. I also would bet that the vast majority of fans will appreciate his creation.

I actually don’t mind episode II. As for episode I, it was like all the actors phoned in their performances. I get the appeal of the Ewoks for kids, but I thought Lucas had really dumbed it down with Binks. I love episode III, but of course the dialogue between Anakin and Padmé in II & III is so painful to listen to. He should have turned those portions over to someone else to write. It makes for some great fodder between DH and myself though!

I have avoided all possible spoiler alerts so these are just my guesses. Yes, the timeline is about 30 years after the Empire is defeated. The Imperial Starship is perhaps crashed into the planet Tatooine and has remained there undisturbed – until recently. The young woman we see in the trailer is the daughter of Han and Leia. Leia is the one who is passing the light saber to her daughter, and Luke is the voice over (obviously) telling his niece the Force is strong in his family. That’s also obviously Luke’s hand reaching out to R2. DH told me that the soccer looking robot is what Lucas originally had wanted R2 to look like but didn’t have the capabilities back then to create the look. DH speculates that perhaps Luke is transferring information from the R2 unit and it will go into the soccer ball looking droid. Anything is possible however I can’t imagine getting rid of such an iconic droid. I am braced for a beloved character to be killed off.

There's a thing called the "machete order" for watching Star Wars.  Watch them in the following order:  4, 5, 2, 3, 6.  I did a recent binge watch this way and enjoyed it immensely.

Yes, 1 is missing on purpose.  Most people will talk about Jarr Jarr being the thing that ruined it.  While he is absolutely annoying, that is NOT the greatest sin of episode 1.

Midichlorians.  I probably spelled that wrong, but I don't care, because this word should never have been invented or uttered in the first place.  This attempt to make the Force some kind of scientifically feasible whatever (or make it NOT a religion somehow) RUINS the entire idea.  The Force is mystical.  It is a mystery.  One must have FAITH to wield its power.  This stupid concept undermines the entire epic nature (you know... good vs. evil stuff) of the story.

Yeah, that got us stratching our heads, too. It felt like we were on the outside of some inside scoop. But, wasn't this referenced a bit when Senator Palpatine and Anakin were talking in Episode III?

Yes, the word was uttered once in episode 3.
