what probably influenced me the most was the shooting instructor in fourth grade, he was a WW2 veteran and gave me a copy of To Hell and Back. That might cause accusations of the school teacher in All Quiet on the Western Front, it wasn't that way at all though. And then there was always the propaganda film Sands of Iwo Jima. Louis L'amour helped out some too.
None of which I will repudiate now.
