I think I have a hardware problem OZ, specifically the touchpad is shot to hell, even in stock 6.06 Ubuntu, with the mouse working fine, If I so much as tap the touch pad the entire system locks down.

But the mouse works fine, I think I'll use it here later today.

Can you disconnect the internal touchpad ?   Perhaps it has a small cable or wires connecting it to the mobo with a header connector.  At least that way it won't keep trashing your system.
