Tempus Fugit is now available in the store.

The fiction area of the store is now full.  I will be expanding it into sub-categories in the very near future so that we can offer even more.  Growing by leaps and bounds thanks to you guys!

Keep the good ideas coming!

Added Blowback: The Costs and Consequences of American Empire, The Sorrows of Empire: Militarism, Secrecy, and the End of the Republic, and Nemesis: The Last Days of the American Republic to the Current Events books page.  All were written by Chalmers Johnson.

Nemesis is set to be released on February 6th and can be pre-ordered.

Updated the store's front page...

We've got something for those of you looking for something for Valentine's Day.  Unfortunately, it doesn't come in digi camo, but it is chocolaty.

was checking to see if your store had "Alas, Babylon" and noticed you can't select "books" as a search category...

Unfortunately, since we have books as a category on our store, it wont let you search it on Amazon that way.  Just click on "Go to Amazon.com" link right below it and you'll be able to search for it.

Hm. If we don't have Alas, Babylon, maybe I should use my magical powers of persuasion to get Thunder to add it. That was one of those books that was a huge eye-opener for me in adolescence (along with Animal Farm, Brave New World, and 1984 ... also Kerouac's On the Road, but we'll refrain from mentioning that one  ... also not to mention the complete works of J.D. Salinger ...).

I've wondered here before how the vastly inferior On the Beach became the huge post-Apocalypse mega-hit while the far better Alas languished in its shadow.

Easy Claire, think Ava Gardner and Gregory Peck. Then add in some of the supporting actors such as Fred Astaire and Anthony Perkins (pre-Psycho).

OW!  My arm!  Stop.....twisting....my arm!   ^_^

As much as I hate to say it, this will take some revamping of the Fiction section that I've been procrastinating on.  I'll fix it up tonight when I do my normal update.

I'll be definitely making a Science Fiction section.  Also thinking of a Series section due one it taking up a big chunk of our fiction section now.  Take a look at the books we currently have and if any of you TCFers can think of a different category to file them under, let me know!  I'm all ears!

:)  yeah, "Alas, Babylon" really *needs* to be in there.  It's one of those books that seems to stick with you and color everything else after you've read it.

possibly because Alas wasn't apocolyptic enough.  Alas was more about how to survive, everyone dying is more dramatic.

Alas, Babylon is now in the brand-spankin' new Science Fiction section.

I'm in the process of migrating titles over to that section as we speak (type?) so the selection is still sparse, but gimme time...  ;)

Tempus Fugit is there, too....

noticed that, thanks for getting them both in there.   :)  I got Tempus Fugit when Claire blogged about it, but I don't have a copy of  Alas, and it's been ages since I read it, so I think I've gotta pick a copy up now that you've got it in the store!

For a while now I've been trying to remember this other book I read when I was younger.  Another one of those books that sticks in your mind.  There was a thread, either on this board or on FTL, about good books for kids.  I spent a couple hours searching on various permutations of my vague recollection of the plot, but gave up/got distracted.  Anyway, I got around to looking for it again and finally found it, it's The Girl Who Owned a City, by O.T. Nelson. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0440928931?ie=UTF8&tag=clairewolfeco-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=0440928931

great book for a kid.  this is one of those that's been floating around in my head for probably 25 years, yet I only read it once way back.

this reviewer (from the amazon link) has read it way more recently than I have, and has a good suggestion:
Quote
If you are looking for a parable demonstrating a child-level libertarian point of view, then this is the book for you.

Critics complain about the plot being weak or the characters being weak or the dialogue being flat. Parables and fables aren't known for their ability to serve those entertainment goals. Furthermore, children's literature generally is a bit shallow for the adult palate. . . have you seen children's TV?

Critics also complain about the ideals of the main character. To them I say, "feel free to add this to the list of politically incorrect ideals that should be banned or burned."

However, if you are looking for a thought-provoking, conversation-inducing children's primer on jurisprudence, ethics and social contract theory, then this book is perhaps one of a kind.

I recommend getting it as an audio book and listening with children on long vacations. Stop the tape or CD and converse when the philosophy gets rich.

If you like Frederick Bastiat, John Locke, Ayn Rand, Milton Friedman, Ludwig von Mises, and Friedrich Hayek, then this book serves as a fable of their world view for children.

No, it wasn't on the store's pages, however, anything that you can purchase on Amazon is available, you just have to go through her store for it to generate the referral fee.  Anything on Amazon.  You just have to use her store as a portal to Amazon so that she'll get the referral fee.

I just modified your link so that anyone that clicks on it will give a referral to the store.

Thunder, does Amazon pick the music choices, or do you and Claire?  Can we give suggestions?
