Hail and welcome, PJ.

I'm still learning,

Ain't we all! By the way, the most important information on this board is over at this thread:

http://thementalmilitia.com/forums/index.php?topic=2214.0

I suggest you start right at the beginning. You wouldn't want to miss the many valuable insights and tips scattered throughout the many pages.

and hope to gain more knowledge by joining in on the discussions here...or maybe just asking lots of questions!

We like good questions around here. Just make sure you do a search first to make sure others haven't actually wailed on the dead horse to your satisfaction already.

I hope you're all on the patient side!

I'm sometimes astounded at the extent of people's patience around here - so long as you don't consider good-natured ribbing a sign of impatience. You sound like you'll do fine.

Greetings.

You have an interesting message board here.

I have followed Claire's writings since the "101 Things to do.." days and stumbled upon this site by accident.

One thing about small "L" libertarians is the degree to which we disagree.  I haven't lurked here, but if things here are anything like the gun boards, the rhetoric may be lively.

You sent him to the TWINKES thread?!?

Welcome, William Legrand, and beware of Lazarus Long, who evidently has a mission to drive newbies insane on their first day.

Huh. I would respond to this outrageous accusation, but my defense would contain spoilers that clearly don't belong on a newbie thread. Suffice it to say that you oldies were herding the new kitties down the garden path long before I showed up.

I try to faithfully fulfill my sacred trust, and would you look where it gets me!?

Now hold on for just one moment. Are you trying to introduce snickers in a discussion ofTwinkies and Fruitcake? I can't believe you could even think of such a travesty.

I can tell you are 'committed'. Just please, be careful about Snickers, or Mounds, or Reeses Cups being introduced into a discussion of Twinkies or Fruitcake. Das ist verboeten.

been a lurker for a while and finally registered anonymously.

some tips for others looking to participate anonymously - remember that your IP is logged here with posts and you supply an email to create account:
-don't choose a handle/ID you've used elsewhere unless that anonymous account has no actual ID info that actually ties to you. also, don't use your IM handles unless those are also anonymous and protected (recommend gaim, tor and otr and only IM to others with same level of protection).
-use tor/privoxy to protect connection when registering, posting or browing while logged in. I also use firefox with switchproxy to manage proxies and purge cookies/etc when swapping to no-tor.
-use a throwaway email like 2prong. not sure actually needed to activate account here, but some systems do send an activation email.

interest in sustainable/alternate energy, radio, computer security, cyptography, privacy/ghost methods, firearms and general survival/preparedness info. concern with what appears to be increasing police state and gov't intrusion.

Cheers, and welcome, Jorj.

Sounds like you've done your homework. Hope to see you in the Open Source Tech Gulch, if not elsewhere.

Hello, everyone.   George (Gloryroad) thought I might fit in at this board and invited me to join. :hello:  I like what I've seen on this forum and figured I should introduce myself rather than just lurking.  I probably won't say a lot, though.

A bit about me:
I live in Alberta, am married, homeschool 3 kids, raise rabbits (show, meat, pets) & have pet chickens in my urban backyard, and my family and I desperately want farmland so we can be as self-sufficient as possible.
