I haven't had show and tell for ages!
« on: October 11, 2006, 03:13:45 pm »

I never like show and tell in school.  Probably because I never had the "cool" stuff and I was frightfully shy.  With the whole shyness thing diminished via the internet, I seem to like sharing (it could have something to do with 25 more years of experience, too).

Listed as my accomplishments most dear that are easily sharable have to be my writing.  The topical stuff in the form of a blog can be found at http://pintofstout.wordpress.com, and the less topical stuff can be found at http://anonymous.trout.googlepages.com.

The main reason for deciding to self-publish has been to receive feedback (more about the writing than the subject).  My desire for critiques has gone mostly unsated.  This may be because I'm writing clearly and interestingly enough for people not to notice the writing and only absorbing the subject; or it could be that the proliferation of self-publishing media has made reader's tastes for prose and writing much less refined and so don't mind a sloppy essay; or it could be that no one reads what was written.  If I knew for sure the latter was the case, I'd continue to write anyway.  It gives me satisfaction to put down on paper or pixel the thoughts I entertain and certainly helps to clarify those thoughs, if even for my own understanding.

I am proud of some photos I've taken, too, but haven't posted them anywhere online yet.  Maybe I'll add them to the anonymous.trout googlepage in the future.

If you want to know who's looking at what you need a hit counter.  If you do your own web stuff to any extent and can insert a bit of code in there,  then maybe you can use what I'm using,  which I think I might have found at one or more of Bill's pages,  if I'm remembering right.  Just click on the web link on my post and look at the little thingy on the bottom -- and when you click on that you can look at all sorts of interesting stats,  which I don't bother hiding,  though that capability is there as well.

Perhaps that might give you some kind of feedback?

Wordpress has a counter and stats function that works fairly well.  I can see what people looked at, how many views each individual post gets, where people were referred from, and what search engine terms led them to my site.  I don't think I can insert code since it is hosted at their site.

Thanks, though.
