The security of your data depends on you, both in the sense of using security procedures and in using them correctly and constantly. Note that data includes text, number (data) files, and programs.
Note: Problem in Debian Linux, and other Linuxes derived from Debian (e.g. Ubuntu, Knoppix).

PGP 6.0.2i for Windows 95, 98 & NT is available at < ftp://ftp.pgpi.org/pub/pgp/6.0/6.0.2i/PGPfreeware602i.exe >. The file size is 6,699 Kilobytes.
I think that this would be your best free version as it is the only only one that includes PGPDisk.
It sounds like you need PGPDisk more that the basic PGP application that encrypts single files or your e-mail.
PGPDisk makes larger files (you pick the size) on your hard disk that are encrypted with your passphrase and contain any files that you want to put in them. They behave just like removable disks when opened and mounted on the desktop. I use one for my files on my PowerBook and another for my library. You can make them just about any size. Use a 1.4 megabyte one for floppy backup and a 695 megabyte one for backing up to a CD-ROM. For my ZIP drive I make the PGPDisk 94 megabytes in size.
To backup the working files in the PGPDisk on my hard drive, I just copy the PGPDisk file onto the backup disk for offsite storage. I also copy the PGPDisk application onto the CD-ROM along with the encrypted file, just for insurance.
