ALD
From Wolfekipedia
ALD The American Liberty Dollar, sometimes known as the Liberty Dollar.
A privately minted 1 troy ounce silver bullion coin that is sold at a very high premium compared to similar coins. Previously known as ALDs - American Liberty Dollars. See the TCF thread Tell me about gold for an extended discussion.
The fundamental flaw in the Liberty Dollar (besides the very high premium) is the use of a tale, a dollar value stamped on each coin. The original ALD was stamped $10 when silver was trading for $4-6 per ozt. When the price of silver rose past $7.50, ALDs were "revalued" and new coins minted with a $20 tale. Holders of $10 tale ALDs were encouraged to send them in for re-minting at a substantial charge. Few did so, and today ALDs marked with either tale are sold by coin dealers at the typical premium of spot plus a few per cent markup.
