Mint 12, linux the easy way

(1/3) > >>

Recently acquired a Mint 12 CD and have to say..someone finally got it right in linux land.

I say this simply because an older laptop I needed to add an OS  to simply works with Mint 12, and I do mean everything works, Wifi card, camera card, screen drivers, flash player for videos etc

Plug and play is somewhat new to linux in my experience, so if this is not new pardon the recommendation, but after trying the late 00's version of linux this generation of linux is far superior for non linux power user folks.

I cut my Linux teeth on Ubuntu not that long ago, but the overhead reminded me too much of the resentment I felt when Windoze took over my machine when I was wanting to use the processor for my own purposes.  I have had three Mints. 11 was good, 12 seems cleaner. All beat Ubuntu for my purposes. I'm hard-pressed to ask for much more than Linux 12 delivers. ... oh, except to accept a USB blue-tooth.

That sounds great! I wonder if the productivity programs have been improved as well. This might answer some of the questions I'm having about Ubuntu. The OS has worked fine for me, but I find some of the programs that go with it less than optimal. I'll check it out! Thanks.

On the hp it recognized the blue tooth port at install (though that is probably not what one was referencing).

Mint is a touch slow to boot up, compared to how fast I normally like to boot up however it needs none of the usual virus like anti virus software that makes a boot hellishly slow.

Other really zorchy thing about mint is the format and install process is very rapid, anyone who has sat through a M$ install and format knows it will take over an hour, maybe longer, with Mint, it wiped out XP, installed itself, got everything running in about 20-25 minutes on a 40 gb hd in a laptop no less.
