No ID = 2 nights in jail
« on: November 02, 2011, 06:35:53 PM »

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/45135682/ns/us_news-the_new_york_times/t/student-jailed-nights-when-she-cant-show-id/

Early in the morning on Oct. 22, a Saturday, Ms. Zucker, 21, and her friend Alex Fischer, also 21, were stopped by the police in Riverside Park and given tickets for trespassing. Mr. Fischer was permitted to leave after he produced his driver’s license. But Ms. Zucker, on a visit to New York City with a group of Carnegie Mellon University seniors looking for jobs in design industries, had left her wallet in a hotel two blocks away.

Dumshit cops... but nothing I wouldn't expect in NYC. If you swim in the swamp, don't be surprised if you run into alligators. Absolved is coming...

Agreed, ML, but it was also foolishness on her part for not having her ID with her in that particular police state city.  Sadly, having ID is an absolute necessity these days, esp when dealing with cops, or buying smokes or alcohol, or getting your prescriptions (absolutely would not do to have you get someone else's prescriptions, or vice versa; as for smokes and alcohol, clerks have been known to lose their jobs AND get stuck paying the store's fine for selling to underage people).

None of that shit out here, thank God.

Indeed.  Pity, though, that evil and tyranny are more easily spread than good and freedom.

So it's now compulsory to carry ID in NY and show it, when demanded.

All those jokes that used to be told about Nazi Europe in the 1930s and 40s have now come true.  Hmmn, "papers please" and nobody even raises an eyebrow.

This is truly horrifying.  OK, so some of you are saying "none of that out here, thank goodness" (or words to that effect), but IT SOON WILL BE, and NY is only the start of the "slippery slope".

It wasn't too many years ago that I just wouldn't have believed that people would have to carry ID at all times, even when they weren't driving, and show it on demand, in a western country like America.

I'm afraid that I have to agree with mouse. It is truly a sorry state when someone is tossed into jail for not having an ID on them. Talk about shades of communist Russia and Nazi Germany.
