After the last man in my life, I give up. Seriously, I need someone with a very high iq, highly mechanically inclined, high level of street smarts, social smarts, testosterone, high dose of respect, his own stuff... oh the list is just too long so screw it lol

Your standards are too high. Ya know... I'd like to meet a super-smart chick that had a smokin' body and was interested in all the same stuff I am, but I live in the real world. Here on earth, things aren't perfect and sometimes you need to be happy with what you can get. I've had some awesome relationships with girls that weren't as smart or as pretty as I'd have preferred.

There are over 3 billion men in this world. If you've given up and chosen a celibate life, that's fine. However, if you want to find a man you should be able to scrounge up at least 1 out of the billions alive today.

IQ is poor measure of anything but the ability to take IQ tests.

Moreover, I'd dare say a productive, practical man in boots and coveralls would be a much better catch than the high IQ guy in a Brooks Brothers suit.

Actually I should clarify that, if you've ever taken an iq test they are really more about real world smarts than book smarts. My dad would probably score very high even though he can barely read, he is a genius in mechanics.  However, as I do enjoy studying physics etc I need someone that can carry on a conversation about the Haldren Collider, super magnets that allow mass to levitate and world politics as well as someone that can easily have dinner with Donald Trump (and then ride 4 wheeler lol). I dated a 'farmer' once, he was extremely intellegent but refused to wear anything but gray t shirts and I dated 3 Ph.Ds, 2 of which had no social skills and 1 couldnt operate a screw driver....dont get me started on the last guy. I think his biggest problem was he had zero respect for anyone or anything including himself.

1. Im not sure its that my standards are too high as much as there are too many things I want and need in a relationship. All guys have some of the stuff but I need a good mix of alot of stuff. 2. Who is this 'Celebate' person you speak of? lol 3. You have no idea what I look like

too many things I want

Too many things I want = standards are too high.

Want less things. Learn to be happy with things the way they are.

3. You have no idea what I look like

I never inquired or commented about your looks. The smokin' body comment was in regards to what I wanted.

No. I'd rather stay single than settle. I really dont think my wants/needs are too high to be met and I have too much to offer to settle. If I never find someone that can meet my needs then so be it.  I dont have some list that I adhere to strictly and honestly looks are not near the top of the list for me, I just want someone more like me that I can talk to. I dont think thats too much to ask.

Hmm..one strikes me as much more of the "do" type rather than the "talk to" type.

As for settle, I agree with that 100%, it would be miserable to be in a relationship with anyone who was not up to snuff on either side of the equation, it's not like dating is a life boat were there is this tiny group of people to choose from and what is there, is there.

Seems to me like there are very large egos colliding with each other at Harvard!!

Looks to me like some people need to let go of their intellects a little and start living a bit more with their hearts.

Intellect and virtual knowledge are not that important in a mate. Experience, values and a heart capable of love are much more valuable! Never forget an ability to communicate, the lubricant of relationships!

It is extremely difficult to communicate with someone when your intellects are drastically different. For example, I enjoy studying Physics for fun and intrigue but explaining quantum physics to someone who isn't interested in the potential energy findings of magnetic propulsion is not my idea of a Saturday evening by the fire nor is listening to someone drone on about the joys of plumbing. Especially when I cant tell him I plumbed my whole house, added two bathrooms tapping into the water main as well as ran 220 electric from my breaker box (including adding a new 220 breaker) to install a washer and dryer in my kitchen (through 6 concrete walls) without emasculating him? So whats a chick to do when a fella doesn't want to learn and she doesn't want to dumb down? I got a cat. She likes Physics :D

Mom the retired stockbroker, and my "stepdad" the master diesel mechanic have a blast talking poker. He is a sorta trophy husband good guy, and that is why stepdad is in quotes neither aspect of the term applies except for the third (male married to mother other than biological father).  He hates to talk shop, but her statistical analysis work well on poker..........  There are other common obsessions of course, but they seem to have fun with those.

Oh yes, another aspect of the original post seems to stand out to me, competition!  Relationships are not about that, they are about relating, dating is finding out how well the 2 involved can do that.  I think that the 2 parents working so much that the kids do not learn that is part of the problem too, in addition to the TV/Hollywood issue.

I've always thought it to be far better being single and wishing I were married than being married and wishing I were single.

Perhaps it's a little from Column A and a little from Column B POTO and BLUELINEGIRL?

For example, I knew I would never compromise on my political, social and most important, spiritual values. I had always dated guys that were different physically and personality-wise than my husband, so I never would have imagined marrying my husband! We have vastly different temperaments, but since our values are the same our relationship is strong despite the misunderstandings that crop up from time to time because of our personality differences. With the risk of sounding like I'm throwing DH under the bus... he was lacking in the social skills area. However, he's relatively been a quick study! I do agree with you BLUELINEGIRL: I wanted a guy who could fix things and not have to call a professional - that was an important criteria for me.

Moonbeam, actually I do all my own plumbing (including installing a new full bath and gutting and re doing my whole kitchen) and electrical (including adding a 220 breaker to my box and running a new line to the kitchen to install a W/D) I just dont want someone like my ex that would send me into a panick attack every time I saw him with a screw driver wondering what the heck he was about to break now! lol

But - do you do your own HVACR? Communications? Computer work? Structural Design?
None of it is really all that difficult.

And yes, it's just as hard for male anarcho-libertarian-individualists to find an equal partner as it for the females to find one.
Society has produced a bunch of empty-headed people.

Hermit,

+1, No, there are many things I cannot do and I agree that the things that I can do are easy, thats why I can't live with someone who can't even handle simple tasks. I'm glad to be reminded by the HVAC, Comm. comments that I am not alone in searching for someone who is more in line with my intellegence. And for the record, like I stated about my dad not finishing middle school, i'm certainly not talking about and expensive education, even a monkey can be trained.
